Exploring a Strategic Partnership with Toba Dock Co., Ltd. to Expand Annual Repair Capacity
Suzuki Shipyard Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture; President: Naoto Murakami) is currently exploring a strategic partnership with Toba Dock Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Toba City, Mie Prefecture), a company specializing in ship repair services, as part of its strategy to further strengthen its ship repair business.
While Suzuki Shipyard's core business is the construction of small tankers and high-speed aluminum vessels, vessels are legally required to undergo periodic inspections and maintenance throughout their service lives, creating stable and ongoing demand for repair services. In response to this market environment, the Company is working to establish a comprehensive service structure capable of supporting customers throughout the entire vessel lifecycle--from construction to maintenance and repair.
Currently, Suzuki Shipyard handles approximately 30 ship repair projects annually. Through the planned partnership and operational enhancements, the Company aims to increase its repair capacity by an additional 30 vessels per year.
Toba Dock Co., Ltd., with which Suzuki Shipyard is considering this partnership, possesses facilities capable of accommodating larger vessels and is located within the same Ise Bay operating area. This convenient location offers significant advantages for vessel operators. By collaborating, the two companies aim to optimize repair services according to vessel size while promoting technical exchanges to further enhance repair expertise and service quality.
Looking ahead, Suzuki Shipyard envisions a complementary operational structure in which it primarily handles smaller vessels of approximately 500 tons or less, while Toba Dock focuses on larger vessels, enabling more efficient utilization of resources and facilities.
To support the anticipated growth in repair demand, Suzuki Shipyard is also evaluating capital investments that would benefit both its repair and new shipbuilding businesses, including the expansion of outfitting quays and improvements to crane capacity. These initiatives are expected to generate synergies across the Company's operations.
Demand for new vessel construction remains strong, driven in part by the ongoing transition toward decarbonization and fleet modernization. Suzuki Shipyard's order book is currently secured several years into the future. By strengthening its repair business alongside its shipbuilding operations, the Company aims to provide more comprehensive and long-term value to its customers.
Suzuki Shipyard remains committed to becoming a shipyard that customers can rely on with confidence--from vessel construction through maintenance and repair--while continuing to enhance service quality and strengthen its business foundation.
